I have been in this online business for over 15 years and use of popularity through link backs is perhaps the most over rated and misguided way to provide importance to web sites. This method of assigning importance and perhaps higher position in a search makes new entry very difficult if not impossible for people who are not in the field or just begining their presence online. For them www becomes an abyss in which their website is rarely seen or found just solely on the basis of quality content.

Three major search engines have virtual control over the decision on what is quality and what is not. This leaves consumers at the mercy of manipulations from off site link farms, unscruplous businesses and hundreds of dozens of fly by night SEO operations and traffic providers. This may not be good for long term supermacy of existing serch engines as a a new age search engine may upstage them soon by making these off site manipulation points useless. That time is soon coming and the begining of end of some of the search as we see already has begun..Stay Tuned....!!
